Hollow Lantern

Hollow Lantern is a mood piece as much as a game. You explore a quiet town where the lights are going out one by one, tapping to move, examine and solve gentle environmental puzzles. There's no combat, no timer, just curiosity pulling you forward.

The art is hand-drawn and gorgeous, and the sound design does a lot of heavy lifting. Puzzles are logical rather than obtuse, so I rarely reached for a walkthrough. When I did get stuck, the answer was usually something I'd walked past and ignored.

It's short, maybe four hours, and it doesn't overstay its welcome. I finished it in two sittings and immediately wanted to talk to someone about the ending. That's a good sign.
